The First Step.
After surfing online on several websites, the best one, that I feel can better explained the process of building your very on Geodesic Dome is www.desertdomes.com
Question: What size is my geodesic dome?
Ans: The size I'm planning to built is a 16ft dome. Desertdomes.com have a calculator that I used to get my measurements for each struts. I am building a 3v dome. Meaning I will have 3 different size struts.
Important:
Since I'm not a math student or teacher. I had to make sure the measurement is correct. Because I know the importance of measurements when it comes to Gome building. Each struts has to be the proper length.
Okay the for the "A" struts it gives you the lenght of 2.788.
This means that is Two feet. and .788
What does .788 means?
Well you want to convert that into inches. And the way to do that is by multiplying it to 12. So the Answer is 9.456. Meaning 9 inches and .456
What is .456?
Well you want to convert that to centimeters to get a precise measurement. So multiply it by 8. And the answer is 3.648
So for "A" Struts the measurement is 2ft 9in. 3.648 centimeters. round the centimeters to 4. Again the correct measurement for "A" struts is 2ft. 9in. 4centimeters.
You must do this for each struts.
Question: What is the core material my geodesic dome?
Ans: It will be made out of metal conduits. And because this is my first geodesic dome project, I would like to keep the expense at minimum. So I opt for 1/2 metal conduits.
